admittedly, this is not a very useful error message.

but looking at where it comes from, it suggests that you have something strange 
among your services. and indeed, this looks fishy:

(set-xorg-configuration
 (xorg-configuration (keyboard-layout keyboard-layout)))

remove that and try again.
