Not a complete review yet, just some quick pointers.

That's not a good docstring here.  I think 
  (mpd-serialize-boolean): Delete variable.  Move logic into...
  (mpd-serialize-field): ... this.
explains what's going on better.

We generally prefer SRFI 71.
