You had me hoping for a moment. But I just checked with a simple for 
loop, vars are returned in the same 'order'. So I guess I'm back to 
square one.

Seems that's what I'll have to do, too. The bad thing is once your 
problems are significantly advanced it's a _lot_ more code with that 
basic API in C than it would be in any modelling language. I'm already 
looking forward to changing something then... NOT. :)
