I put your code in my .emacs and it didn't display a tip of the day on startup (is it supposed to?). What would I do to get it to display a tip of the day on startup?
All the code does is define a function. You need to actually call it: (totd) ; Display the tip of the day Or you could annoy yourself continually: (run-with-idle-timer 60 t 'totd) (setq special-display-buffer-names (cons "*Tip of the day*" special-display-buffer-names)) -- Kevin Rodgers
