abbrev-mode doesn't take effetc?

firstly I input "foo" then press C-x a g to set "foo" as a global
abbrev of "bar", i make sure than abbrev-mode is enabled, but after I
input "foo" and press space again, "foo" is not replaced with "bar",
why?
