This can be done using gnus-parameters.
See (info"(gnus)Group Parameters") under the item expiry-wait. For example,
(setq nnmail-expiry-wait 30)
(setq gnus-parameters
'(("imap.*\\|nndoc.*"
(expiry-wait . immediate))
("name-of-some-folder"
(expiry-wait . never))))
