Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think a real-time operating system would make
simulations faster. Real-time is about determinism, not speed. A real-time OS
will assure you (within certain limits) that some events will take place at
known and precise instants, but real-time OSes have been around for a long
time, and older ones certainly were slower than some modern non-realtime ones.
