It all depends on the UEFI firmware.

I assume that I'll have to ask the engineer ot make sure the removable
path is tried, too?

before maybe runing the command again, to make sure the firmware is
recent enough?

I don't know. again, it depends on the motherboard. Also, motherboard components may require a more recent kernel, graphic or network firmware...
