Sorry, I didn't understand what you were trying to say.

However, this doesn't work simply because I typed the wrong stuff here.
The original targets were:

        all: $(addprefix all.,$(DIRS))
        update: $(addprefix update.,$(DIRS))
        upload: $(addprefix upload.,$(DIRS))

but I was using addsuffix above.  Change to:

        .PHONY: all $(addprefix all.,$(DIRS)) \
                update $(addprefix update.,$(DIRS)) \
                upload $(addprefix upload.,$(DIRS))
