Make a basic tutorial

Hello All,

Does anyone have a good tutorial for starting to write MakeFiles,  
basic setup, compiling source into a .so or .dll, linking against  
libraries, and maybe an example of nesting MakeFiles so that the  
master make compiles others that it needs to work properly, etc.
