[Help-nano] Shades of Grey, Syntax Colouring on Solaris 8 (sparc)

Trying to get syntax colouring working for a sparc-Solaris 8 server,
I'm pretty sure I build and configured everything correctly.

The trouble is when I fire up nano with a .patch file (patch syntax in
~/.nanorc) I get only grey and white (or dark white and white)

Grey: --- \bin\hermes.bat     Sat Oct 22 16:11:02 2005
Grey: +++ \bin\hermes.bat     Mon Nov 21 13:26:51 2005
White: @@ -33,5 +33,9 @@

White until the next ---, +++ lines (which appear grey again).

About the build server:
* uname -> SunOS hostname 5.8 Generic_117000-03 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210
* nano is built from 1.9.99pre1 tar ball
* ldd nano:
       libcurses.so.1 =>        /usr/lib/libcurses.so.1
       libc.so.1 =>     /usr/lib/libc.so.1
       libdl.so.1 =>    /usr/lib/libdl.so.1
       /usr/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-V210/lib/libc_psr.so.1
* TERM=vt100 (also tried with TERM=xterm same result)
* Connected in via putty SSH
* I do get full color support on gnu dir (ls --color -F works with
blue, green, cyan and grey)

Anyone seen / solved this before?

Cheers,
-G
