To be precise: it wasn't a fix, but just a speedup.

The "SEE ALSO" section is not to be overlooked. :)
man nanorc | grep -C1 backward

Searching backward is done by typing ^W M-B, as you
will know. But it is possible to bind the function
findprevious to some key (M-Q, for example) and then
you can search the next occurrence backwards with a
single keystroke. See doc/sample.nanorc.
If you want a bindable search-backward function, then
plug a feature request into Savannah. Or you could try
out https://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?8791 (although I
don't know if it still applies cleanly).
