How then was it possible that nano-7.2 supplied by MSYS2 previously
_did_ use black on white?  Can you roll back from 8.2 to 7.2 to check?

Or maybe something else was upgraded at the same time as nano?
Maybe ncurses?  Or terminfo?  Or mintty?

What is TERM set to by default in mintty?
