Hi,

the octave benchmark (tm) (joking...:) has revealed the fastest
machine up to now which octave can run on.  It is a DEC Alpha 21164
running at 333 MHz.  Its performance is about 2/3 greater than that of
a 200 MHz Pentium Pro.

If you want to run the octave benchmark on fast machines, you'd better
grab the latest version, which corrects a bug biting only for
performance indices greater than 5.  As usual, it can be found at
ftp://fly.cnuce.cnr.it/pub/benchmark.m.  

Here are the top 10 machines people has run the octave benchmark on:
