Using --without-fftw shouldn't overwrite your existing fftw
installation, it should just create and install the fftw library with
the other libcruft stuff - I make no promises, of course!
I notice that the path to your fftw library is in /usr/local/lib/. Is it
possible that your linker doesn't know how to find this? You may want to
check by running `/sbin/ldconfig -p | grep fftw`. If it isn't listed,
try running `/sbin/ldconfig -n /usr/local/lib` and see if that makes any
difference.
