ls problem in MacOSX Jaguar |

Hi,
I compiled octave 2.1.57 from source on macosx 10.2.8.
I get a strange behaviour for the "ls" command: sometimes it works and
sometimes not
in an unpredictable fashion.
Someone experienced the same problem? Any idea what may be wrong?
Thanks,
carlo.
