How is this behaviour different from matlab itself? Under R12 I get
>> m234567890123456789012345678901234567890=1;
>> save crap.mat
>> clear all
>> load crap.mat
>> whos
Name Size Bytes Class
m234567890123456789012345678901 1x1 8 double array
Grand total is 1 elements using 8 bytes
>> m234567890123456789012345678901
m234567890123456789012345678901 =
1
So this is the fault of the matlab file format not with octave...
