From one member of the octave community to another:

I guess you perceived John's questioning your Java approach as somehow
irritated. Your question was not unreasonable

Ok, ok, mea culpa. I'm sorry I raised the question. I apologize.

It was me who questioned using Java, not JWE.
JWE just asked how using Java could help in order to access MySQL.
I'm afraid my e-mail was mis-attributed to JWE, so while he went on
asking how could it help, everybody talks to him as if he had questioned
using Java under Octave for accessing MySQL.

Even if (there were/there are/there may be) other reasons for not using Java,
JWE wasn't the one who started to question it. It was me who started.
My reason to question it was the "Java trap".

Mea culpa. I'm sorry I raised the question. I hope nobody gets annoyed,
and certainly I must make sure that nobody gets annoyed to JWE
because of something that _I_ (not him) said. It's my fault, not his.

Sorry for the long, boring e-mail, and thanks to everyone for your
patience and sympathy.
