Load file

Hi, I'm new on the list, and I'm trying to load, or read from a text
file, like .txt or .dat format, data as follows:

Inside the file I have this data in column:

P-48G
U3832-3M3
K733MM
...
...

and so on. I don't know if is posible to read from the file when the
data is not a number, and then be able to managed that data as a
matrix, for instance.
