cellular automata with animated visualization?

Can anyone point me to octave code for 2D cellular automata with animation? That is, I want the CA states to be displayed on a 2D grid as colored squares and have it updated in "real time" as the simulation proceeds. I know about "image()" but this does not do what I want.
