I think you might have inadvertently downloaded "parallel octave" from its home URL at, instead of MPITB from, since MPITB has no file

The routine (I attach the source) gets the error: error: no match for 'operator[]' in 'map["fd"]'

Line 111 of is:

 sockfd = map["fd"](0).int_value();

Google code finds that sentence in poctave-0.0.4, at line 109

Is it possible that oct-map.h is incomplete concerning the operator [] ?

Many thanks for your help in advance!

I think poctave was designed for an older Octave release, and the Octave API has changed since then. According to

    I made the MPI-based Parallel Octave for 2.1.44.

* octave-parallel_mpi_0.0.4.tar.gz

I think the link points to the 0.0.4 version you are using. It seems to match the API for Octave-2.1.44, back in 2003.
