I am running Octave 3.2.3 via OctaveForge on an Intel based mac, and am running 
MacPorts ppc version on both G4 and G5 based macs. I suspect the problem will 
be MacPorts port-file.

I'll try updating my MacPorts Octave to 3.2.3 and report back later.
