3.4.0, tex interpreter, and fltk

Hello. I have compiled 3.4.0 on Unbuntu 10.04. (3.4 is very nice.
Congratulations!) The tex interpreter doesn't seem to be recognized by
the fltk toolkit. Under gnuplot, the command

text(4,0,'\leftarrow test')

produces a left arrow. Under fltk, it produces the text "\leftarrow test".

I realize that fltk is still experimental, so I'm wondering if this is
the expected behavior at this point or is there something broken in my
compilation.
