Hello,
I complied and installed the latest gcc (v4.6), and proceeded to use it
to compile octave. The following error message occurs:

configure: error: your Fortran compiler must have an option to make
integers the same size as octave_idx_type (int). See the file INSTALL
for more information.
The INSTALL file, however, contains no helpful information about
resolving this issue. Any tips for resolving would be much appreciated.
Thank you,
Peter
Platform is redhat enterprise linux 5, x86-64 architecture. gcc 4.1.2
was included in the RHEL5 distribution, but gcc 4.1.2 is not apparently
capable of compiling octave 3.4, thus requiring the use of a more recent
version of gcc.
