Note:  all of my tests below use gcc-4.6.2 from Fink.

10.6/64-bit is fine.

10.6/32-bit doesn't fail at bsxfun.cc, but later on:

  scripts/linear-algebra/normest.m ....................... PASS    8/8
panic: Segmentation fault -- stopping myself...

I'm not sure whether the failure is for normest.m or onenormest.m ; and
this failure also occurs with Apple's gcc-4.2.
