fftw hangs

Hi,

If I use: 

octave:1> fftw('planner')

I get: 

ans = estimate

However, if I try to use: 

fftw('planner','measure') or fftw('planner','exhaustive') [or any other method], octave stalls. I tested it on 3 workstations (all running Ubuntu 12.10). I aborted the operation after 5-10 min (using Ctrl-C). I am using 3.6.2 of Octave. 

Please advise.
