currently octave builds fine configured with :
../octave/configure --disable-java --enable-shared

However, when trying to configure with the options you suggested above,
"configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --disable-java"
It seems it's not a valid option....
$ hg tip
user: Rik <address@hidden>

$ ../octave/configure --help |grep java
--disable-java disable Java interface
you need of course to "./bootstrap" to refresh the configure
