Thanks Ben,

but still not exactly this, what I want:

>>> [[a.b].c](1:numel(a))
ans =

   1  -1

But I want 1 2.

In addition, I would prefer a more general solution, which does not require
me to count the entries, like:

wanted_results =  [[a.b].c]([1,3])

Is there anything that does the trick?

Also, what happens, when I 'd like the -1, eg. [[a.b].c]([2]), or if I start
to play with:
a(1).b(1).c(1).d = 1
