Same problem as noted in Octave-General post of 5/24/14 by BigEd781 with 0

"After fixing the include path in octfile-3.8.0 to point to the xcode
include directory I am able to install all of the supporting packages
required by the image package. However, when I attempt to install image
(pkg install -forge image) I receive the following error:

configure: error: in `/var/tmp/oct-HW1LK1/image/src':
configure: error: cannot run C++ compiled programs.
If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.
See `config.log' for more details
checking whether the C++ compiler works... yes
checking for C++ compiler default output file name... a.out
checking for suffix of executables...
checking whether we are cross compiling...
pkg: error running the configure script for image.
error: called from 'configure_make' in file
near line 72, column 9
error: called from:
error: /usr/local/octave/3.8.0/share/octave/3.8.0/m/pkg/private/install.m
at line 199, column 5
error: /usr/local/octave/3.8.0/share/octave/3.8.0/m/pkg/pkg.m at line 394,
column 9

I poked around, but hit a wall when I realized that the configure command is
throwing the error and I can't inspect it (obviously as it's compiled)."

Additionally I don't see config.log on my filesystem.
