How reproducible is it? If you try after a few minutes or hours does it
work again?


has been pretty consistent since a few weeks back when I installed 4.2.0. 

I still have 4.0.3 sitting here. Opened that up and am getting the same thing.

only other quick comment is that in 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 "pkg update" gives me the same error as above ,whereas with 4.2.0 I get individual warnings for each package:
"warning: pkg: package communications not found on forge - skipping update"

so something's different between versions, but apparently not something causing this issue.
