instrument-control 0.3.0 /home/tomdean/octave/instrument-control-0.3.0

octave:105> s1 = serial("/dev/ttyUSB0", 19200, 10)
s1 =

  Serial Port Object
    open:     1
    port:     /dev/ttyUSB0
    baudrate: 19200
    parity:   None
    bytesize: 8
    stopbits: 1
    timeout:  10

octave:106>  n=srl_write(s1, "ID?"); disp(n); [data,count]=srl_read(s1,128)
data = [](1x0)
count = 0

In gtkterm, this works. The data is returned immediately.
