octave 4.2.2 in ubuntu 18.04 cannot create fig file

Please issue the following commands to reproduce my problem.

plot(sin([0:0.1:pi]))
print('sin.fig','-dfig')

There are only some header lines in sin.fig. The plot contents do not exist
in sin.fig.

Can anyone help me out about this?
P.S. I also compile octave 4.4.0 which  cannot create correct fig file
either.
BTW, the older OS ubuntu 16.04 is no problem.
