Note that pkg-config doesn't handle cross-compilation, and doesn't use
the normal autoconf approach of testing for features.  So it isn't
that robust.  I should mention this in the manual...

I've been using Bruno's lib-*.m4 macros for a while in several
projects now, and they appear to work fine.  I hope they will become
part of autoconf eventually.
