[Help-smalltalk] explanation of previous msg

(this explains the e-mail I sent to Jeremy Dreese and CCed to the list)

Versions since 1.7 don't compile under Solaris with GCC. They segfault at
startup. 1.8 to 1.8.4 versions halso ave problems with memory management,
but 1.8.5 will not. Since Jeremy works for a university he has access to
the Sun compiler, which costs money and which other people who had told me
about the bug did not have. He tried the Sun compiler and -- surprise --
no segfault anymore.

The previous message gives suggestions about what to do to solve the bug
in GCC too.

The attached configure runs a configure test that looks for known GCC
bugs; the test will be in 1.8.5, possibly updated to check for SPARCs if
Jeremy succeeds in building GNU Smalltalk with GCC.
