I did as you said Paolo.

./configure informed me i needed awk, so i installed gawk. Then I did a make, 
and it did the following:

I'm running pretty much stock Ubuntu 10.10, couple extra packages loaded, not 
too many. Any ideas? I looked for a package that might provide something like 
sigsegv, but didn't find anything. I'll keep looking.
