It would be great if you want to see what happens. The first item is to get 
debug
symbols installed to see where in GST it crashed.

To see which Smalltalk code was executed the best method is to use
_gst_show_backtrace(stdout) within gdb.

If you take a look at .gdbinit of the smalltalk sourcecode you will find a macro
like this. If you load the file typing stbt will give you the Smalltalk 
backtrace

set unwindonsignal on
call _gst_show_backtrace (stdout)
call (void)fflush(stdout)
set unwindonsignal off
end
document stbt
Print the backtrace of the currently running Smalltalk process.
