Looking at this in more details, I am not sure anymore what would be
correct here. There may be issues regarding the error messages,
but, in the current design, the node normalization is what basically
determines whether nodes are the same or not. And the node
normalization are the following, based on the `HTML Cross References'
specification:

a.  b             ->     a_002e-b
c.  d             ->     c_002e-d
e.  f             ->     e_002e-f
a.@ @ b           ->     a_002e--b
address@hidden:  :}d    ->     c_002e-d
address@hidden  }f         ->     e_002e-f

Therefore there are 2 issues:
* should spaces in menu entries not be transformed in one space,
  although it is what is setup in the `HTML Cross References' spec?
* should spaces not be transformed in one space but kept as is in
  @verb and @w?
* shoud @ @ follow the rule on normal spaces, and therefore be
  transformed in one space?

This has consequences for all the formats, as this normalization is the
basis for node unicity determination. And it makes sense since it is
really what makes them unique in HTML.

Opinions?
