I agree it is a good idea (funny that) and I can see that it is
something that, in time, cvswebclient will need soon.

Just think - we could get rid of all those cvsthis, cvsthat,
cvsthingy commands that require access to the local filespace. Hmm.
Nice.

How about a comment from the CVS maintainers? What would it take for
you to consider it?

One change I might be tempted to make now would be to change the
command. You know, something like 'cvs x command' might be tidier.
