In general, if there's no CVS subdirectory in a directory or if there
are no D lines in CVS/Entries, CVS will recurse into all of the existing
subdirectories. If there are D lines in CVS/Entries, CVS will recurse
into only those subdirectories. I don't know of any cases where
different subcommands recurse differently in the same directory
structure -- if you encounter such a case, please send details (e.g.,
the contents of CVS/Entries for each directory) to address@hidden
