Yep, that's what it boiled down to.  Being a CVS novice--and only having
used it from the "user" side of things--I didn't realize that there really
isn't a separate concept of "CVS administrator" in the system.  As it
turns out, the password they didn't have *was* the root password to the
box, but the box has huge, gaping security holes in it, so that turns out
to not be an issue.  (The security holes should be an issue, but, well,
that's not my problem at the moment....)

On an unrelated note, this list isn't actually archived on Yahoo Groups
anymore, is it?  I signed up there, posted the message, then realized it
didn't have any messages more recent than mid-December.  I'm glad people
were emailing me directly... :)
