I'm an emacs user (and have been for decades) and I'm telling you it IS
far more complex than "rocket science" to try to edit an RCS file
containing binary data, even with an rcs-mode to help highlight the RCS
file syntax elements and assist with RCS-like meta operations.

The problem is, of course, that binary data is often more or less
meaningless to a human, while structured text is very meaningful, which
means that when editing a broken RCS file the structure of the data it
contains assists you in repairing the RCS structure.

Been there, done that, threw the file away.
