No, neither analogy is in any way "good".
With CVS and non-diff-able, non-patch-able files we're talking about
using a tool that's not even remotely suitable for the job at hand.
We're not talking about something which happens to have a narrow flat
part on the end of a handle and which just happens to more or less fit
in the slot of a screw head, and which can be twisted by hand to more or
less manipulate the screw. We really are talking instead about
hammering machine screws in with the handle of a soldering iron!
If you want to be a hack then so be it -- but don't try to say otherwise!
Meanwhile if you want to do things efficiently and effectively (one of
the very reasons for using version tracking tools in SCM in the first
place) then please try to learn to use the right tool for the job.
You really do not want me to find another funny image and post it (or
even just mail it to you directly) to visually demonstrate what I'm
talking about (though I might have a much harder time doing one better
than last time!). A picture might be worth a thousand words, but it'll
take up a heck of a whole lot more space in your mailbox!
