CVS 1.11.2 PServer Assertion Error

Running in a CVS 1.11.2 pserver environment.
Both Client and Server machines are SPARCs running Solaris 2.6

When I try to checkout, update, or diff certain files that reside in the top level directory ($CVSROOT) of the repository, I get the following error: 

Assertion failed: ptr >= rcsbuf_buffer && ptr < rcsbuf_buffer + rcsbuf_buffer_size, file /u/scjones/cvs-nightly/src/rcs.c, line 1095

This problem does not seem to occur with all files in the $CVSROOT directory nor in other sub-directories of the repository.

Has anyone seen this or similar problems?
