That is very old -- you may want to consider upgrading to the current
release (1.11.5).

``cvs status'' never shows "the latest checked in revision" (if there
even is such a thing) except by chance. What it shows is the revision
specified by the sticky tag or date if there is one (if the sticky tag
is a branch tag, it shows the head revision on that branch), or the head
revision on the default branch if there is no sticky tag or date. I
suspect you will find that the clients in question have sticky tags set.
