How to access email using gnus?

Hi, 
I am trying to get familiar with gnus and its features. I have been
able to setup the news reader and sending of emails. But I am not able
to configure the recieving of emails. 

Can anyone please tell me how to retreive emails using gnus? I have
set the Mail Sources options to correct values. But I have not given
the password. Also, the primary source is set to nil.

Also, I would like to retrieve all emails including read ones from my
POP3 and hotmail webmail server. What option should I set to ensure
that happens?

Any help on this will be appreciated.
