Something like:

(setq gnus-secondary-select-methods '((nntp "")))

in your .gnus.el.
(Change news server to yours).

Start Gnus, in *Group* buffer type "^" to open *Server* buffer. Browse
group list of your news server, and press "u" to subscribe to groups.

In any group, press "a" to post new message, "f" to follow up, and "F"
to followup and yank.

These are all in Gnus manual.
