If the server doesn't have the message, and you're not using the Agent,
none of those will get you the old message.  If it's not on the server,
it's not on the server.

However, you can fetch stuff from Google with

(setq gnus-refer-article-method
      '(current
        (nnweb "google" (nnweb-type google))))
