Box quote may look nice but it's more difficult to copy the code. Plain
text lines, possibly with indentation, is better:

    (add-hook 'message-mode-hook
              (lambda ()
                (setq fill-column 78)

Or maybe plain lines with "cut" markers:

(add-hook 'message-mode-hook
          (lambda ()
            (setq fill-column 78)
