gnus-user-agent & nnmaildir:inbox is not visible

* issue1
when i start gnus (M-x gnus) it does not 
show in nnmaildir:inbox. it does not show 
even if it contains ubread emails. right 
now i am subscribing to make it visible 
from menu. i have changed "display all" in
nnmaildir:inbox group.

*issue2
when i have sent an email [1] it did not display 
about emacs & gnus version similar to message [2] 
in our mailing list. "send a mail" option 
in gnus menu is used to send email.

gnus user agent in .gnus:
(setq mail-user-agent 'gnus-user-agent)

do i need to add user agent in .emacs also?
if so, how?
