hello!

...been working fulltime to bring the vcdimager project to the next
stage; this release is aimed at people who want to help testing and
improving this toolset. I'm trying to follow the 'release early and
often' scheme, that's why there's a snaphost/preview release out
now... if you don't feel to well, using something called 'unstable',
just don't use it... yet! :-)

I hope someone will start hacking up a java or whatever kind of GUI
for creating the XML description files...

from the NEWS file:

version 0.7.0 (unstable/development)
====================================
2001-05-24

* dummy PBC generation disabled for classic vcdimager frontend (use vcdxgen
instead)
* warn if labels are non-conforming
* use PTS times instead of inaccurate GOP timecodes
* support for segment items added
* support for additional entry points added
* support for (auto)pause points added
* (full) PBC support (including playlists, menus/selections) added
* new XML based frontend(s) added (vcdxgen, vcdxbuild, vcdxrip)

from the README file:

...Furthermore, 3 XML based tools have been added recently:

1) vcdxgen - a xml description generator, with an interface similiar
   to the classic vcdimager frontend.

2) vcdxbuild - the image builder, which takes a xml description (and
the files referenced within) for the to be built image.

3) vcdxrip - the vcd extraction tool. this tool completes the cycle by
giving the possibility to extract the (s)vcd structure of an cd image,
and give back a xml description + mpeg items of it.

For simple PBC-less VCDs the classic 'vcdimager' tool will be enough,
but if advanced VCD features are needed, like menues, playlists,
additional entry points, auto pause points and so on, the XML based
tools are required to make use of. Examples and more information about
the XML structure will be added on http://www.hvrlab.org/~hvr/vcdimager/
